Whilst speeds are important, your latency is just as important.
When running a speed test you will notice it will also say what your ping (latency) response times are as shown here:
You will more than likely encounter issues with your video calls if this number is higher than 50ms
It is worth doing a few tests if yours is higher than this as these numbers can fluctuate based on a number of factors:
- Inadequate bandwidth or someone on the network downloading a large amount of data
- Firewalls
- Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- Geographical location
Zoom Bandwidth Requirements:
Bandwidth requirements
The bandwidth used by Zoom will be optimized for the best experience based on the participants’ network.
It will automatically adjust for 3G, WiFi or Wired environments.
Recommended bandwidth for meetings and webinar panelists:
-
For 1:1 video calling:
- 600kbps (up/down) for high quality video
- 1.2 Mbps (up/down) for 720p HD video
- Receiving 1080p HD video requires 1.8 Mbps (up/down)
- Sending 1080p HD video requires 1.8 Mbps (up/down)
-
For group video calling:
- 800kbps/1.0Mbps (up/down) for high quality video
- For gallery view and/or 720p HD video: 1.5Mbps/1.5Mbps (up/down)
- Receiving 1080p HD video requires 2.5mbps (up/down)
- Sending 1080p HD video requires 3.0 Mbps (up/down)
-
For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps
-
For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps
-
For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps
-
For Zoom Phone: 60-100kbps
Recommended bandwidth for webinar attendees:
- For 1:1 video calling: 600kbps (down) for high quality video and 1.2 Mbps (down) for HD video
- For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps (down)
- For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps (down)
- For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps (down)
Adobe Connect Bandwidth requirements:
Bandwidth Requirements:
- Bandwidth: 5Mbps for participants, meeting attendees, and end users of Adobe Connect applications.
- Connection: DSL/cable (wired connection recommended) for Adobe Connect presenters, administrators, trainers, and event and meeting hosts.
- Adobe Connect account management by Meeting Hosts, Event or Webinar Managers, Virtual Classroom Managers, and Administrators requires Adobe Flash Player 13 or higher.
Microsft Teams bandwidth requirments:
Bandwidth(up/down) | Scenarios |
---|---|
30 kbps | Peer-to-peer audio calling |
130 kbps | Peer-to-peer audio calling and screen sharing |
500 kbps | Peer-to-peer quality video calling 360p at 30fps |
1.2 Mbps | Peer-to-peer HD quality video calling with resolution of HD 720p at 30fps |
1.5 Mbps | Peer-to-peer HD quality video calling with resolution of HD 1080p at 30fps |
500kbps/1Mbps | Group Video calling |
1Mbps/2Mbps | HD Group video calling (540p videos on 1080p screen) |
WebEx Bandwidth requirements:
Maximum bandwidth consumption of Sending and Receiving Video:
- High Definition Video: 2.5 Mbps (Receive) and 3.0 Mbps (Send)
- High Quality Video: 1.0 Mbps (Receive) and 1.5 Mbps (Send)
- Standard Quality Video: 0.5 Mbps (Receive) and 0.5 Mbps (Send)
The actual bandwidth requirements and utilization will vary based on multiple factors, including:
- The resolution setting of the camera.
- The frames per second (FPS) setting.
- How many cameras are activated in the meeting.
- How many active cameras are on the same network.
- How many users are actively utilizing the network.
- The bandwidth utilization of other meeting activities, such as screen or desktop sharing, Voice over IP (VOIP), etc.
